Male', MALDIVES - Three athletes who were selected for the five scholarships left Maldives tonight. Under Maldives Olympic Committee’s Sports Scholarships for Athletes, the young athletes who are selected for the scholars will be training and studying in Malaysia and Indonesia.
Table Tennis players, Mueena Mohamed and Aminath Shiura will be training in Malaysia’s National Sports Council’s High performance center and the Maldives number one Badminton player, Mohamed Ajwan Rasheed will be training in Indonesia’s Badminton Asia Center (High Performance Center).
Meanwhile the other two athletes, Ahmed Azneem and Hassan Said will be leaving to Malaysia within the next couple of days.
Speaking to MOC Media Ajwan said that this is one of the best opportunities so far he got and he never expected such a scholarship.
“I am really thankful for Olympic Committee for giving me a chance like this and I am going to use this. I am sure I can perform well in the Indian Ocean Island Games and the coming tournaments with the help of this scholarship.” Ajwan said.
Young and committed athlete, Hassan Saaidh said he never expected this and it will help him to improve himself a lot.
“I never expect such a scholarship in my life time and I am surprised for this and really thankful for the Olympic Committee. I am sure with the help of such a long term training I can improve myself and will try my level best to get a good name for the Maldives.” Saaid said.
