Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) has appointed Mrs. Yaznee Nasheeda as the Chef de Mission (CDM) of the Maldives team that will participate at the 2015 from Commonwealth Youth Games (CWG).
The Samoa CYG will be held in Samoa from 05 to 11 September 2015. This is the fifth edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games, which started in 2000. The Samoa CYG2015 are open to all 71 Commonwealth nations and territories and will have up to 1000 athletes participating ranging between 14 to 18 years of age.
In her role as Chef de Mission, Mrs. Yaznee will be the lead representative of Team Maldives, supporting and mentoring the athletes and serving as spokesperson and liaison with Games officials and organizers.
Starting her sports career from school Yaznee has represented Maldives at several international competitions including the Olympics in1996, Commonwealth Games in 1998 in Malaysia as well as in 2002 at Manchester. Yaznee also participated at the Asian games held in 1998 at Thailand/ Bangkok. Moreover, Yaznee was also part of the Maldives contingent at the SAF Games held in 1999 in Kathmandu/Nepal. She was also part of the 1995 and 1997 world athletics championships held in Sweden and Greece as well as the Asian athletics championship that was held in Jakarta/Indonesia .
After retirement as an athlete Yaznee completed her coaching diploma in the field of Athletics, from Hungary and is currently working as a coach and technical official at the Athletics Association of Maldives. As a coach/official Yaznee has represented Maldives at the world youth championship held in Debrecen/Hungary and Marrakech/Morocco.
MOC’s focus at the Samoa CYG is to support the athletes, coaches and the CDM of the games across all sports to secure further improvements at both national and international level thereby making new national records.
