On the 2nd of June 2015, the University of Physical Education honored its class of 2015 in a ceremony held at the Physical Education Center. The forty third edition of the International Coaching course which is an intensive coaching education program supported by the Olympic Solidarity Programme of the International Olympic Committee included 26 coaches representing five continents, 24 countries and 6 sports disciplines.
Among the 26 coaches who completed the 3 months intensive course, only 6 were females, including our local coach Mariyam Nafha Ali. Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) is also proud to announce that Nafha is the first female coach from Maldives, to have completed the International Coaching Course.
In a statement given by Nafha she stated that, “it is a really good course to start for coaching. I didn't just learn ABT swimming. I learned many subjects such as coaching principles, training theory, physiology, psychology etc…”
For over 10 years now, MOC has been providing opportunities like this, where we have been pushing our local female athletes and coaches to grab such opportunities. Today, we are glad to announce that, over the course of the last 6 years, we have successfully increased the visibility of talented female athletes, through equal opportunities, positive expectations thereby changing the outcome.
We congratulate Nafha for her accomplishment, and we are proud for her demonstration in representing Maldives. Our thoughts are for Nafha to pass down the skills and knowledge acquired during the course to all future Maldivian athletes.
