Maldives Olympic Committee has finalized the six athletes that were selected to represent Maldives as delegates to the 09th Indian Ocean Island Games Youth Camp. The youth camp is an educational and cultural exchange programme under the Olympic flag for young people. The goal of Youth Camp is to spread the Olympic spirit, showcase the culture, history and customs of the host country and the host city, facilitate the friendship and the interaction among young people, and create a unique Games experience for them.
All the athletes were selected by the Education Commission of the Maldives Olympic Committee based on the athlete’s demonstration on exceptional achievement in sports, team playing and a genuine interest for experiencing and learning different cultures. The 06 athletes selected are:
1. Mubal Azzam Ibrahim (Swimming Association of Maldives)
2. Ali Sham (Athletics Association of Maldives)
3. Ahmed Zaidhaan Mohamed (Table Tennis Association of Maldives)
4. Hawwa Suha (BADMINTON ASSOCIATION OF MALDIVES)
5. Nihaya Ahmed (Maldives Chess Federation)
6. Fathimath Thanee Latheef (Football Association of Maldives)
Apart from the above 06 athletes, Ali Rasheed, Vice President of Table Tennis Association and Aminath Nasia, member of Women’s Commission will participate in the Youth Camp, as officials.
As part of the 10 day program, youth camp participants will be given the opportunity to watch the Opening Ceremony and some matches of the Indian Ocean Island Games, experiencing traditional Reunion arts as well as communicating with fellow athletes from the 07 countries taking part at the youth Camp.
