The South Asian Sports Council (SASC) meeting attended by all the top members of the National Olympic Committees of the eight countries of South Asia was held on the 8th of July 2015 in New Delhi/India.
At the SASC meeting, it was decided to postpone the 12th South Asian Games to be held in Guwahati and Shillong from earlier December 2015 to February 2016. This was decided by governing body of the regional multi-sporting event, in response to the request that came from the Olympic Committee of Maldives. The Olympic Committee of Maldives further requested to include female Volley, basket and football as sporting disciplines in the 12th South Asian Games.
At present the Games have at least 22 disciplines and a final decision on whether cricket will be included or not will be taken by the Organizing Committee of the SAG in a meeting with Sports Ministry officials. The Games was scheduled for the 2012 to be held in Delhi, but they were postponed due to the Delhi elections that year and later ban of the IOA by the International Olympic Committee. The last edition of the SAG was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2010.
