Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) in Collaboration with the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and Advocating the right of Children (ARC) conducted a one day seminar for professional level athletes. These athletes known as “healthy Champions” will represent the MOC, HPA and ARC by fostering an environment that supports school children eating well and being physically active.
The aim of today’s seminar is to equip the athletes recognized as “Healthy Champions” with resources such as information and training to promote good nutrition and active living to youth and families. The objective of the program is to increase the capacity in schools to promote healthy eating and physical activity beyond health professionals.
During their visit to distinct schools, Healthy Champions will encourage school kids for making behavior changes to support increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables, making better beverage choices, understanding proper portion size, increasing minutes of daily physical activity, and recognizing the need to balance calories consumed through food/drink versus calories burned through physical activity and growth.
